Our infant curriculum themed lesson plans are designed for babies between the ages of 1 and 12 months of age.
Our infant curriculum includes four weeks of lesson plans for each month purchased. Our aim is to introduce the babies in your care to different types of sensory materials for babies in a play based learning environment. Infants enjoy learning through sensory activites, songs, stories and lots of one on one interaction. Our program includes lots of fun learning activites, simple exercises, infant massage, sign language and much more designed just for babies!
Mirror play and toys just out of reach make tummy time a bit more fun!
Babies love to see themselves in a mirror. Place a mirror securely in front of baby and place a nice baby safe mat down on the floor in front of the mirror, place some baby safe toys around baby to encourage baby to stay on his tummy and try to reach for the toys.
Some babies love tummy time others hate it, if baby doesn't enjoy tummy time there are different way to do this activity with baby, these fun ideas are listed in our infant curriculum lesson plans.
Place a large beach ball near baby's feet to encourage him to kick the ball, gently push the ball back to baby so he can kick it again, or place the ball into a crib with baby and let him kick the ball as it hits the sides of the crib it will roll back to baby, supervise baby with the ball.
This is a favorite teething toy, sometimes it's hard to find a teething toy that baby enjoys chewing on. We found this on Amazon and it's soft and pliable and the babies love it.
I Can Do It! Babies love this play gym.
I love that I can switch out the toys each week. Plus I can add the links to make the toys hang lower so baby can easily bat them. As baby gets older, around 3 to 4 months old, he will begin to grab the toys and bring them to his mouth to chew on them, and everytime he kicks he gets rewarded with music, what could be better!
Baby is watching the balloons move through the air like magic. Everytime he moves his feet the balloons move!
This activity is great for babies that can't roll over yet, always supervise infants with the mylar balloons in your care, directions for this activity is included in our infant lesson plans.
Stretch, stretch! Place toys slightly out of reach to encourage baby to wiggle and stretch to try and get the toy.
I can sit - with a little help from a pillow!
I can crawl - almost!
Watch baby scoot across the floor to reach the toys he sees. You may want to lay a blanket or sheet on the floor and place baby on top of that, supervise baby while he is on the sheet or blanket.
Puppets for baby - you will need some simple finger puppets – we have printable ones in our curriculum to print out or you can purchase cloth ones.
You can use either a finger puppet or a hand puppet with the babies in your care. Take showing the finger puppet or hand puppet you decide to use to one of the babies in your care.
Slowly move your hand into baby's direct line of sight and wait until she seems to be focusing on the puppet. Next, begin speaking slowly, for the puppet. You can say something like, "Hello, I'm quack, quack the yellow duck."
As you speak for the puppet, bend your hand forward {hand puppet} or move your finger forward {finger puppet} like the puppet is talking to baby.
If you have some farm animal puppets you could sing Old McDonalds Farm to the babies in your care and hold up the farm animal puppet as you sing about it!
Fun activity for older babies. You will need some baby safe cups or containers and some mega blocks.
These travel sized plastic bottles are perfect for little hands. Place a small amount of rice in one of the bottles, hot glue the cover on and shake it to hear the soft sound it makes, you may want to put some seeds in one of the other bottles to make some interesting sounds for baby to hear. You can also use small water bottles and place bells inside the bottle and hot glue the cover on.
Make sure you hot glue the covers on and check daily that the covers are still secure with the hot glue.
Soft book for baby. Some of lesson plans will have you making soft books for the babies, these are very simple to make and the instructions for making the sensory books are included in the lesson plans.
Singing aloud to the children is a fun way to help children learn develop their language skills, along with the listening and concentration skills.
Babies love to listen to you sing, tell him or her stories and recite nursery rhymes.
To capture the baby's attention bring out a finger puppet or a hand puppet as your sing some songs or recite some finger rhymes to the babies in your care!
What is heuristic play? Heuristic comes from a Greek word eurisko "meaning to discover", heuristic play was developed about 30 years ago by Educational Psychologists, Elinor Goldschmeid. Heuristic play offers older infant different types of textures and different types of items for the babies to explore to help them develop their senses; touch, smell, hearing, sight and taste.
Some of the items that we include for the older babies to play with would be plastic jars, plastic jar covers, hair rollers, shower curtain rings, napkin holders, mega blocks and many other items.
The fun items we included in our infant discovery basket above is a water bottle, plastic containers, hair rollers, shower curtain rings, mega blocks, foam blocks, large knobbed puzzle pieces, round cloth coasters, and some plastic square alphabet pictures.
These activities are for infants 6 months and up.
Babies that are mobile don't understand how to share and that is why we try to include items to use in our curriculum that are very easy to "provide a lot of them" so there are plenty of items to go around and less stress to the baby's "feeling they need to share".
One theory behind heuristic play is that you "provide a lot of materials" and only leave the materials down for a short time while the children are being "observed" playing with the items and the teachers let them play with the materials; however they want, as long as they are not hurting themselves or anyone else.
We decided to use some of these "types of items" in our curriculum and to turn them into "learning activities" this way they are playing with the items and learning with them too! In our infant curriculum we have tried to incorporate some heuristic play items with a touch of Montessori ideas and some preschool themes (changed for babies) to make our "hands on learning curriculum."
We have provided a lot of sensory activities which include touching different textures such as fake fur, velour, corduroy, felt, and other types of textures along with handling different types of items such as water bottles, which are of course empty and clean, and teacher will need to hot glue the cover on, jar covers with no sharp edges, hair rollers, and many other items along with some water play on their high chairs and some finger painting with corn meal or strained carrots with a bib on and in their high chairs.
By using our infant curriculum babies will be exposed to a lot of new ideas, sensory items to touch and lots of songs and rhymes to help to stimulate and encourage the babies to explore their environment.
Our infant curriculum was designed to introduce infants to a variety of play materials where they can learn and grow and discover the world around them. We try to provide the infants in our care with a fun activity based "hands on learning program" where the infants will learn by using their "five senses" by seeing pictures, by handling the learning materials, hearing songs, rhymes and stories and learning baby sign language so they can communite with their caregivers!
Hands On Activities Our infant curriculum has teaching pictures, language development, sensory/art time, play time (fine motor), exercise time (gross motor), massage time, five signs per month (sign language) along with some cute songs and rhymes to capture the infants attention plus help them to learn, they can learn a lot through our infant program. These activities are not only to entertain the children but to help them learn through sensory play and lots of fun "hands on" activities.
