Directions: Download and print out the six shamrocks above onto heavy paper, color them different colors, make sure one is green and cut them out.
To begin to play the game have the children sit in a circle.
One player sits in the middle of the circle; this player is the leprechaun. The leprechaun starts the game by passing the six shamrocks out. The leprechaun then closes his/her eyes and keeps them closed while the shamrocks are being passed by the children around the circle that they are sitting in.
After the shamrocks have been passed for a few seconds, the leprechaun shouts, "Shamrock!" and opens his/her eyes. The players holding the shamrocks will take turns holding up their shamrock and everyone will yell out what color shamrock they are holding up, the child with the green shamrock is the winner of this round, you can change the color each time so the children don’t know which color is going to be the winner.
Now the winner gets to be the leprechaun for the next game. Continue playing until each child has had a turn at being the leprechaun.

With young children we don't have them sit out if they get caught doing the movement when Larry Leprechaun did not say to do it, we just continue the game until
the children lose interest.
This is a fun gross motor movement game to play with young children on St. Patrick’s Day.
