Preschool Beach Theme - Starfish Color Match Up

Starfish Circle Time Activity

Oh, what fun! Children will love learning about starfish during your beach week theme with this is a fun circle time activity that helps to teach children their colors.

You Don't Need The Starfish To Do This Activity

This activity can be done with different colors of pompoms and circles or squares of paper that are the same colors as the pompoms that you are going to use.

To quickly capture the preschoolers attention you may want to use the starfish shown above, they come in color or in black & white. Just print out and cut apart.

The starfish come in six colors red, blue, green, white, brown and yellow. You will also need the same colors in cardstock paper or construction paper. Cut out a circle of each color and place it in front of each of the starfish.

You will need pompoms that are red, blue, green, white, brown and yellow and have the children take turns matching up the pompoms to the starfish by color.

Hokey Pokey Starfish Song

Print out the starfish either in color or in black and white. Print out the starfish onto heavy paper such as white cardstock paper. You may want to laminate the cards to make them more durable. If you print out the black and white starfish you may want to color them after with the colors red, blue, green, yellow, brown and leave one white, these are the same cards used above in our circle time activity where the children match up the pompoms to the starfish.

Circle Time Activity or Worksheet

Children will have fun learning colors with this fun interactive color match up activity.

Print out the pieces and place a piece of magnetic tape onto the backs of the pieces and have the children sort the starfish by color. Teacher will put one starfish showing each color going down the side of the magnetic board or you can use a metal pan.

Children will take turns sorting the starfish by color by placing the starfish beside the other starfish that is the same color.

Colors in the starfish sort by color are red, blue, green, yellow and brown.

This page can also be printed out as a worksheet, print out the worksheet and the matching colored starfish cards. Teacher will need to cut apart the starfish color cards that are to be glued or taped onto the worksheet.
