Day 3

Circle Time: Little Raccoon

You will need: : Raccoon and Forest animals file, felt board or a large strip of felt taped to a sturdy box, Velcro, paint roller and white cardstock paper.

Read the story “The Kissing Hand” By Audrey Penn if you don't own this story you may be able to borrow it from your local library.

Activity: Explain to the children that little raccoon is sad, he doesn't have anyone to play with, he wants a friend; have them help raccoon find some friends.

Teacher will ask one of the children, can you find a friend for little raccoon and then have them pick up one of the forest animal cards, have them place the card onto the felt board next to the little raccoon, teacher will show the children raccoons new friend, repeat with the rest of the children.

Forest Friends Card Directions: Print out the forest friend’s cards (2 pages of animals) onto white heavy paper such as cardstock paper; you may want to laminate the cards or cover them with clear contact paper to make the cards durable.

Song/Rhyme: What Did I Hear?
You will need: Duck, pig and bear pictures, cardstock paper or use stuffed animals.

I was walking along and what did I hear? I heard a quack, quack, quack

A quack, quack, quack? Yes, a quack, quack, quack.

Who do you think said that?

Give the children a few seconds to think who may have said quack, quack, quack and then hold up the yellow duck – print out pictures or use stuffed animals.

Repeat with oink (hold up pink pig) and grr (hold up brown bear)

Directions: Print out the duck, pig and bear onto heavy paper such as white cardstock paper, or use a stuffed animal duck, pig and bear. Hold up the duck at the end of the rhyme, recite the rhyme again with an oink in place of the "Quacks" and then repeat the rhyme again with a "grrr" in place of the quacks at the end of the rhyme each time hold up the duck, pig or bear (depending on which animal sound you used).

Art Time: Fish

You will need: Large paper plate, blue paint, fish print out, crayons and circle stickers.

You will need one paper plate per child, have the children paint the paper plate blue (ocean) and set aside to dry.

Print out the fish file, use as a pattern in cutting out each child one fish from copy paper have the children color the fish, when they are done coloring, give them some circle stickers to stick onto their fish.

When the paper plates dry, have them glue their fish onto the paper plates (ocean). The fish print may be a bit larger than the paper plate it may hang over the sides of the paper plate.

Learning Time: Sort The Green And Yellow Fish

You will need: Fish file (from art time today), two medium sized sturdy boxes, white contact paper, yellow and green cardstock paper, yellow and green mega blocks.

Activity: Have the children sit in a circle and take turns picking one mega block from the cloth bag, have them hold up the mega block they picked and see if they can tell you what color they block they are holding, have them match the block to the same colored fish, have them place the block onto the contact paper, next to the fish that is the same color as the block they are holding.

Directions: Print out the fish file (black and white file) onto yellow cardstock paper and then print it out again onto green cardstock paper. You will need two medium sized sturdy boxes and two long strips of white contact paper, tape the contact paper to the boxes, sticky side out. Place the green fish onto one box and the yellow fish onto the other box.

Teacher will need a large assortment of yellow and green mega blocks and she will need to place these into a small cloth bag or pillowcase.

Letter/Number Time: Heart – Circle Sticker Match Up

You will need: Heart shape with circles on it, copy paper and circle stickers.

Print out one happy face heart – circle sticker worksheet per child. Teacher can hold up the heart and show it to the children and then teacher can show the children the circles on the heart and show them how to place the stickers onto the circles on the heart, give each of the children a happy face heart with the circles on it and have them match up their circle stickers onto the circles on the heart.

Special Activity: Play Dough Hearts

You will need: Green play dough, heart shaped cookie cutters, mini rolling pins or sturdy toy rolling pins.

Show the children how to roll out the play dough and how to push the heart shaped cookie cutter into the play dough to make green hearts, this months color and shape, be sure to mention the shape and color throughout the activity to help the children learn the new words.
