Teddy Bear Week
January Week 4
Day 5
Circle Time:
Colorful Teddy Bear
Print out the large black and white teddy bear that has circles on it, print it onto cardstock paper, and glue on two googley eyes, put on a circle sticker for a nose and draw on a smile and then tape it to your magnetic board, metal door, metal pan, etc.
You will need 19 pom-poms, cardstock paper, hot glue and magnetic tape.
Directions: cut the magnetic tape and hot glue to the pom-poms. Place all the pom-poms into a sturdy plastic bowl and have the children fish for a pom-poms with a magnetic bingo wand. Have them remove one of the pom-poms from the bingo wand and tell you what color it is and then have them place the pom-pom onto one of the circles on the teddy bear, continue until the teddy bear is filled, then remove the pom-poms and repeat until the children tire of this activity.
If you do not have a bingo wand, they usually sell them at Wal-Mart, Kmart or you can do a search on the computer for magnetic bingo wands, or you can use something else, such as a sturdy plastic spoon or a small net that you would use to catch a fish in a fish tank, etc. to catch a pom-pom.
Safety Note: Remind the children that they are not to put the pom-poms into their mouths, where these are small pieces supervise the children at all times with the materials and put them away as soon as this activity is over.
Option 2: If you have children in your care that still put small items in their mouths, then you may not want to use this activity, and have the children color the picture and put on circle stickers onto the circles instead.
Song/Rhyme:
Two Little Teddy Bears
Adapted from two little black birds
Two little teddy bears sitting on a hill.
(Have the children show the teddy bears)
One named Jack and one named Jill.
(Hold one up high then hold the other one up high)
Run away Jack. Run away Jill.
(Hide one behind your back, and then hide the other one behind your back, so both are now hidden.)
Come back Jack. Come back Jill.
(Bring back one teddy bear, and then bring back the other teddy bear)
Repeat.
You may want to make a copy of the rhyme above and send home with the teddy bears. Have the children act out the rhyme with their teddy bears.
Art Time:
Two Teddy Bear Puppets
First, you will need to print out the small teddy bear file, you will need to print out two teddy bears per child onto heavy paper such as card stock paper.
Next, have the children color their teddy bear and then the teacher will need to attach large craft sticks to the bears, by using heavy tape such as masking tape or duck tape to turn the teddy bears into teddy bear puppets. Then have the children recite the rhyme above with their teddy bears puppets!
Learning Time:
Teddy Bear Writing Page
First, you will need to print out the teddy bear writing page. Show the children the picture, ask them if they know what letter is on the picture. Tell the children that teddy bear starts with the letter T.
Next, have the children color the teddy bears and then trace the T’s for Teddy Bear at the bottom of the page.
           
Letter/Number Time:
Teddy Bear Clothespins M, N & O
You will need three quart sized clean cardboard type milk or juice cartons, teddy bears with the letters M, N and O on them and clothespins. Cut the milk cartons in half. Tape one teddy bear to the front of each milk carton, and then write the letters M, m, N, n, O and o onto circle stickers and stick onto the clothespins.
Place the clothespins into a small cloth bag or pillowcase and have the children take turns picking a clothespin from the bag. Have them tell you which number is on the clothespin and then have them match it up to the milk carton by matching it up to the letter on the teddy bears, have them clip it to the milk carton or drop it inside the milk carton.
Special Activity:
Teddy Bear Music Movement
You will need some squares of paper and number each square a different number 1, 2, 3, up through the number 7 (you can use duplicate numbers). Make sure you have one square per child.
Tape the squares randomly around the classroom and then teacher will play some fun upbeat music and have the children bring their teddy bears to school today and dance to the music with their teddy bears and after a minute or two teacher will stop the music and tell everyone to find a square to stand on and then teacher will say “look at the square your standing on and see if your standing on the number one, if you are standing on the number one then hold up your teddy bears and wave them back and forth.
Repeat other actions with the rest of the numbers such as:
- Number Two Square - Put teddy on your toes
- Number Three Square - Jump up and down
- Number Four Square - Turn around
- Number Five Square - Yell ya hoo
- Number Six Square- Hug your teddy tight
- Number Seven Square - Hide teddy behind your back
Then play the music again, and make sure to change the actions each time.
